Learn More About Laser Diode Stacks
The number, the width, and the spacing of the emitters is manufacturer dependent. The relative value of the emitting areas in the active layer with respect to the bar width is the filling factor (FF). Typical filling factors are 30 – 90%. The center-to-center distance between two adjacent emitters is the emitter pitch. Z is the propagation axis of the laser radiation. The propagation axis Y is the fast axis (FA) and the X axis is the slow axis (SA), referring to the rate of divergence. Therefore, these axes comprise the beam angle (divergence) in the two planes, XZ and YZ.
Some Applications for Laser Diode Stacks
These high-power laser diode stacks are often used in applications ranging from materials processing such as welding, cutting, and cladding, to medical applications such as hair removal and ophthalmology to defense and military applications like directed energy weapons (DEW).
Laser Hair Removal (Epilation)
Diode lasers are extremely effective and ensure gentle, painless hair removal with long-lasting treatment results. The reliable and extremely efficient diode lasers from Jenoptik, in the form of QCW diode laser stacks, have proven their worth in dermatological and aesthetic applications for many years thanks to their robustness and high pulse power. Their small, lightweight, and compact design means they can be integrated into devices of almost any size, and their wide range of wavelengths and long service life are also impressive features.
- Wavelength diversity: The pigment melanin contained in hair plays a decisive role, particularly in the field of hair removal. Darker body hairs (with a high melanin content) can more easily be destroyed by laser light, leading to better prevention of hair regrowth. Whereas the wavelength of 755 nanometers is also well suited for lighter hair, 808 nanometers is suitable for darker hair and 1,064 nanometers for darker hair/skin types. Customers can choose from a broad wavelength spectrum in the range of 760–1,100 nanometers to ensure they are equipped to treat almost every type of hair and skin and receive a tailor-made solution for their device and laser treatment. Jenoptik diode lasers can also be optimized for other wavelengths depending on the customer’s needs. Here Jenoptik takes advantage of the flexibility of its own semiconductor production in Adlershof in Berlin, where the basic material for the lasers is made.
Our Laser Diode Stack Products
Our laser diode stacks are multiple laser diode bars packaged in close proximity. Therefore, increasing the total output power in the smallest area possible. Multimode diode stacks can be actively cooled with Microchannel Cooling (MCC) or passively cooled depending on the waste heat requirements. We offer a wide range of wavelengths and output powers up to 1440W CW and up to 2400W QCW.
We offer options in near infrared (NIR) wavelengths ranging from 808nm-980nm. These stacks have free-space output and collimation options for fast axis, slow axis, or both axes.
